Oceanside, California is a sunny beachfront community located along the same stunning Southern California coastline as San Diego, which is 35 miles south of downtown.  Oceanside is the 3rd largest city in San Diego County and has a popular of 173,303.  Part of the ‘Tri-City area” with Carlsbad and Vista, the city is located just south of Camp Pendleton, which is the busies military base in the United Sttes.  Since 1970, Oceanside has experienced great growth and since the 1990s the city has increased commercial and industrial development that has diversified Oceanside’s economic base.

History

The area was first visited by European explorers in 1769.  The Spanish missionaries under Father Juniperio Serra founded Mission San Luis Rey de Frncia on a former site of a Luiseno Indian village.  The early 1800s instroduced faring and grazing which change the landscape of Oceanside.  Residentials areas in the downtown area were built in the 1890s, South Oceanside was built in the 1920 and 1930s and the developments east of the Interstate 5 are now preserved and remodeled when the homes were considered to have historical value.  SInce the establishment of Camp Pendleton in 1928, Oceanside was proud to have U.S. armed formes personnel and the wartime industry of WWII and the 1950s had an ammunition manufacturing facility in the city.  After 1970, the focus of Oceanside has been suburban development making Oceanside a top real estate choice with home values increasing due to the city’s location near the Pacific Coast.
