Oceanside Municipal Pier

Spanning 1,942 feet, Oceanside Municipal Pier is one of the most notable piers in the Western United States. Not only is it the longest wooden pier along the West Coast, but this spot also holds the title as the longest over-water pier at 1,954 feet (596m) in Southern California. The pier was was first built in the 19th century, then restored in 1987. It now houses a restaurant and snack bar as well as a bait and tackle shop. For those who do not wish to walk the distance of the pier, a tram is available for the journey.

Oceanside Pier was first built in 1888 (now in it’s 6th incarnation). The historic Oceanside Pier is a prized community resource. The pier is a recreational common ground for Oceanside a place where young and old, surfer and fisherman, tourist and residents mingle, sit and stroll to watch the waves or beautiful sunset. A fishing license is required for surf fishing on the beach, no license is needed for fishing off the pier.
